PSA story board

My partner and I will creat a story about a rural highschool student that stays after school till six oclock just so that he can use the internet at school. The highshcool student that stays after school will be named Manuel.

Bio of Manuel : Average Latino highschool student that cares about his education, and is a balanced student by partakeing in after school clubs. Although he sometimes gets kicked out of after school clubs for frequently being absent, but his reason is that he needs to use the school internet to work on a report for school. He does have a computer, but he lives in an unservicable area leaving him ostracized from the internet. If Manuel only quick internet access at home maybe he could stay in the clubs he wants.

Bio of Drake: Manuel's friend. Just as excenlent as Manuel in shcool, but he has access to internet however the connection is too slow. ( He is cocasion male)

Bio of Shary: Friend to Drake and Manuel. Just as excelent in school as, and she has fast affordable internet. (Cocasion female)

The Story line:
  • Drake is walking in the hall way near the computer lab. Drake sees Manuel after school in the computer lab. Drake enters the computer lab. Drake asks him why he is not at his club metting. Manuel replies he need to work on a paper and he needs the internet.
  • Drake ask why cant he do it at home. Manuel replies that he has no internet access.
  • Drake says that he feels bad for him and understands his pain.
  • Manuel then asks Drake that does he not have internet at his house as well.
  • Drake replies that he does but it is dial up and it is really slow and ends up staying up late in the morning to find information that he needs for his paper as well.
  • Manuel ask him then why does he not just stay after school. Drake replies that he wish he could but his parents rarely have the time to pick him up after shcool and that today was one of those rares days.
  • Manuel says that he lives only a few blocks from home so he can just walk home after he is done with his paper.
  • Drake tells Manuel that he wish he lived in walking distance of the school.
  • Drake says he has to go because his mom was here to pick him up. Drake exits scene.
  • Manuel get a call from Shary and she is asking Manuel what the homework was for MYP Technology.
  • Manuel tells her that we needed to find six sources for our project. Shary says that she can get that done in like ten minutes easy.
  • Manuel ask her why is it that she lives only a few miles away from her and yet she has fast cheap internet.
  • Shary tells Manuel that she has no correct answer for his question. Shary ask why did ask that and ask if he has internet where he lives. Manuel says no. Shary is in shock because they live only a few miles appart ( like two or four)
  • Manuel tells Shary that she is lucky to have fast internet. Shary brags in a lampoon way to Manuel. Manuel tells her it is not funny but chukels a bit.
  • Shary ask Manuel what time he usually gets home after school. Manuel says like eight. Shary says that she is sorry that he does not have internet access at home sujest that maybe he should ask his parents that if they could move.Manuel says they would never agree to that because they do not see the internet as useful.
  • Manuel ask Shary what it is like haveing access to internet and not having any block sites like youtube because the school computers block those cites. Shary says its okay but sometimes its gets boering when sitting down all day looking at a computer screen. Manuel wishes he could experence that feeling, however he looks like he will not be able to for a long time.
  • Manuel tells Shary that he has to go and finish his homework that requries the internet. Shary says good bye as well.
  • Scene ends with Manuel just typing on the computer then end credits.

Access Facts 10

1. In Coffeeville Alabam High school students only have computer access at their high school.
2. 60% of rural America use broadband Internet. 10% less than urban America.
3. 28% of americans do not use Internet at all.
4. Pushing America’s digital expansion is a point of emphasis for President Obama, who on Thursday night held a private meeting with Silicon Valley’s elite, including Facebook’s chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, and Carol Bartz, president and chief executive of Yahoo. His administration has given $7.2 billion in stimulus money toward the effort, including the map, which took five years and $200 million to develop and shows a number of discrepancies in the quality and availability of broadband access between rural and urban communities.
5. Broadband Internet speeds in the United States are only about one-fourth as fast as those in South Korea
6. U.S. Internet connections are more expensive than those in South Korea
7. U.S. costs about $45.50 per month on average, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. In South Korea, the much-faster hookup costs $17 per month less
8. In the U.S., competition among companies that provide broadband connections is relatively slim. Most people choose between a cable company and a telephone company when they sign up for Internet service.
9. the U.S. government pushes forward with a "broadband plan" that aims to speed up connections, reduce costs and increase access to the Internet, especially in rural areas.
10. There are stark cultural differences between hyper-connected Korea, where more than 94 percent of people have high-speed connections, according to the OECD, and the United States, where only about 65 percent of people are plugged into broadband, according to an FCC survey.

By reading the article on CNN and gathering information I notice that the  percentage of other countries that have internet are more than us. In the article on CNN it basically stated that the U.S invented the internet, so how come the whole country does not have access to the internet. It is actually quite confusing as to why and unclear why our country is so behind in having internet access when out country invented the internet. Although the U.S is pushing to extend its broadband connection amoung rural and urban parts of America it is actually expected that the percent will increase in around five years from now. However if nothing is really done by then, the U.S is facing a serious problem.

Create/Evaluate

. How could you improve your presentation? Instead of having comic strip bubbles where the audience would have to read, I could have tried to see if Domo Animation was capable of using audio.
21. Does your presentation meet all of the requirements? My creation meets all the requirements as to reaching the goal of teaching Sixth graders about the Deign Cycle and being within a minimum of two minutes.
22. Share your presentation with at least 2-8th, 3-9th, 4-10th+ friends. What did he/she like about your presentation?
23. Reflect on all the steps of the Design Cycle. What did you do well? What do you need to improve? I believe I did well on the Create portion of the design cycle. Because it took me a well over of two hours of hard work in order to create my video. I was also creative when it came to the story line of the video and attempted to make the video entertaining for the audience.
24. Were you responsible in using the software, Internet, pictures, and computer? I was responsible when using the technology that was provided for me in order to complete my project. I did not mistreat the technology that was provided for me in order to complete my project.
25. How can my learning help my community? By understanding how to create entertaining videos that are educational. Also if I were assigned to create an educational but entertaining, I will have already had experience in order to create one.
26. What grade do you deserve on this project? (1 - 6) I deserve a 5 on this project. Because even thought I put a lot effort into my project, I had not tested the video towards someone in order to see how effective my video is.

What I did today 10-7-11

I complete over twenty slides from my video project. during my creation of my project I was also experimenting and revising my video in order to have a flow for my video. I noticed that when creating my video that the flow of my video was confusing. Because I knew that my audience would be unable to read which phrase to read. However I was not able to completely revise my enter video and complete it, I will need to complete my video over the weekend and make sure that my audience can comprehend my video.

INVESTIGATION REFLECTION, WORTH 60% -SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT

I diserve a Five on the Design Cycle rubric, because I have carefully picked the most effective form of presentation and program that I can use for my project. The program I will use is Domo Animation and is not only simple but also entertaining for my audience to view. I have also experimented with this program to see how the video would appear when being presented, and I concluded that it would be most effective to use for my project. I have also compared Domo Animation to Masher, another video making program, in oder to determine if there was a posable alternative option to create a video an effective video presentation.
Now over my investigation I have concluded and also confident that Domo Animation would be the most effective presentation tool to use towards my audience. However I did not give myself a six because I did not have strong evaluation procedure for Domo Animation, however I am confident that this program will help me reach my objective.

Design Brief
10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it. I plan to make a video using Domo Animation in order to teach sixth graders as to what the design cycle is and how it is used.
Formulate a Design Specification
11. What are the requirements for this assignment? I need to have a simple video that follows the design rubric in order to teach the sixth graders what the design cycle is and how it is used. I will also need some sort of presentation tool that can teach my audience well.

  • Need it to be simple for the audience to understand.
  • Contain information about the design cycle and the design cycle rubric.
  • Contain characters that can describe the design cycle.
  • Can not be to difficult to make.
  • Have some sort of setting or back ground.
  • Be entertaining to my audience.
  • Be within a 2min time range.
  • contain music that is entertaining.
12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment? My limitations is that I can not really pull a sixth grader out of class in order to get the quality feed back I would need to test my presentation.
13. How will you "test" your presentation? I will probably ask students around my class and ask them to test my presentation in a mind set that a sixth grader would like and still learn from.

  • I will have a test rubric for the three classmates I will ask for them to test.
  • I will present the video to my classmates.
  • I will then ask my teacher to review my presentation.
  • Make sure that it is with in the time it is ranged to be completed.

Domo Animation

I rated the two Video animation cites from a scale of 1-5; one being the lowest and five being the highest.  The two Video animations cite that I compared are Domo animation and Flipbook. I compared the two video cites by the following: Simplicity, Animation quality, Music quality, Entertaining, and if students are able to learn.
When grading on simplicity I was looking at how easy the program allowed the user to create an easy and simple video. I rated Flipbook a five out of five, because the program requires you to just draw and write your video. Basically Flip Book is just an online flipbook the user can make online. Now in comparison I rated Domo Animation on simplicity a 4, because even thought the tools make the program user friendly; Flipbook is more where you can have done and ready in a day if needed to. Although I rated Flipbook high in simplicity I feel it is too simple and too childish for the audience; where as Domo Animation is not as simple and childish as Flipbook is. However the reason as to why I rated Flipbook higher than Domo Animation is because Flipbook forces the user to get to the point and not be as complicated as Domo Animation requires you too.
The next Grading scale was Animation quality. I rated Domo Animation a five where as Flipbook I rated a two. My reason being is that Domo Animation is not just simple drawings but more high quality graphics that are more eyes catching to the audience. While Flipbook is really based on how well a person can draw when using the computer, so it is really based on how well I can draw which is not really well. Domo Animation was more appealing because it was something that I can actually do with out any complex drawings where as Flipbook requires the user to draw. Also Flipbook was way to fast for the audience to even get a chance to see what was going on in the video. In comparison, Domo Animation is at a pace for the audience to at least get a chance to read and write what is going on in the video.
Music was my third portion of the grading scale.  Music is extremely important for the audience; so that they would be more entertain when the audience is watching the video. Now I rated Domo Animation a 4 because it did not really have a wide variety of music but it had quality music for this type of program. Where as Flipbook I rated a one for having no music at all. I cannot rate Flipbook a zero because my rating scale is from one to five. Although music for Flipbook would not really work because it the video is moving to fast for the user to actually add any music at all.
Now for the entertainment portion of my rubric I rated Domo Animation to have a four, and Flipbook a three.  While looking through some sample videos of Domo Animation I notice that there was more color and background added than in Flipbook. Also the music and the drawings are not stick figure. Where as in Flipbook the sample videos were just stick figures and there was no music at all or just sound in general in the videos. However I rated Flipbook a three because it was the short and fast pace videos that made the video appealing to look at over and over again. If Flipbook only had sound that the user can use instead of writing boom I would have rated it a four for entertainment than a three.
The final portion of my rating scale falls on how well the audience can learn from the two different video programs. I rated Domo Animation a four and Flipbook a two on this portion of my rubric. Since Domo Animation is at a steady pace for the audience to have enough time to read and comprehend the purpose of the video, the video would have more success to teach the public what the video is attempting to teach. In comparison to Flipbook the program is just too fast for the audience to read but may still be able to comprehend as to what the theme of the video is.
In conclusion Domo Animation had a total of 21 point out of the 30 that I could have possibly given it, and Flip book received a 12 out of 30 points. By just looking at the total score I am positive that I will use Domo Animation for my project over Flipbook. As in any lesson video the most concerning parts to me is the entertainment, music, graphics, and how well the audience can learn from the video, because I feel they are essential for the audience in order to learn from the video. Furthermore I feel that Domo Animation will allow me to teach the audience as to what is the design cycle is in a more effective way.

compare cites

I was looking at either creating a video or a comic book strip for my project to teach a Sixth grader about what is the Design Cycle. I found that that creating a video was more fun and interesting than it was creating a comic book strip. Now while i was looking for a cite to create a video, there turned out to be many. However the video cites that stood out most to me was "Domo Animate" and "Masher".  I am debating between the two because they are both interesting to a sixth graders point of view, however I am leaning more to the "Domo Animate" because I deals with anima which to my knowledge is considered to be more liked as entertainment.
Now the create a comic book striped was just too much reading involved for my viewer. I see it as that sixth graders will be more interested in watching a video than they will reading a comic book. That is why I choose to create a video because it will be more interesting to my audience where at the same time they will be learning what is the Design cycle.
